All About PLPD Insurance |

PLPD Insurance is auto insurance that provides the policy holder public liability and property damage (hence the name PLPD). The public liability (PL) section of the policy insures you against any claim for personal injury or death following an automobile accident. In other words if you are a driver in an accident then anyone injured in the accident can claim against you for their medical bills to be met and also for compensation for the pain and suffering they have suffered not to mention loss of earnings. Remember, liability insurance covers damages to the drivers in the other vehicle, not yours. You need full coverage auto insurance if you want your vehicle to be protected from damage and injury. Making sure that you have the right level of liability insurance coverage is a must, even or perhaps especially if you live in a State where there is a no-fault system.
You should always bear in mind that you are only ever covered up to the amount specified in your policy, so if you are covered for say $5000 in respect of public liability insurance and the injured persons bills and claim comes to more than $5000 you will be personally liable to pay the rest. We all know that litigation is rife, so you are best making sure you have the right amount of coverage.
In a PLPD insurance policy the PD section covers the policy holder for Property Damage, so if you are in an automobile accident and damage another car this is the section of the policy that will make sure that those car repairs are paid for through the insurance. PLPD insurance covers more than just cars; if you have run into a wall or drive in to the side of someone’s house the property damage coverage will also cover those repairs. Again you need to remember that the amount that the insurance pays out will be capped by the amount of Property Damage coverage that you have in the policy and again if the bills come in higher you will have to make up the difference.
In most States PLPD insurance is the very lowest amount of auto insurance coverage that is acceptable. If you don’t have any insurance you are driving illegally and risk loss of your driver’s license, a fine or even imprisonment. Getting your insurance should be the first thing you look at before getting in your new car. Many of us are working to budgets especially during this recession and a good way to save on your auto insurance is to compare quotes from multiple insurance providers. This gives you a better chance of finding the best rate with the best amount of coverage.
